anthurium magnificum x crystallinum plant liveUS$26 · 10 Jun 2026
Cross Anthurium magnificum's scale with Anthurium crystallinum's silvery venation and velvet texture, and this hybrid is roughly what results: a compact, semi-upright plant with broad, deeply cordate leaves showing pale primary veining across a dark, velvety blade. Sturdy petioles support blades that grow substantial, inheriting size from the magnificum side of the cross. It tends to be more vigorous and generally easier to manage than either pure species, which has made it one of the more common velvet hybrids in UK collector cultivation without feeling like a compromise.
Horticultural hybrid; derived from tropical American parentage
Root rot
Cause: Substrate that stays wet, often from a mix that's too dense or a pot with poor drainage
Fix: Repot into a chunkier mix immediately, trim away any mushy roots, and let the plant recover in a smaller pot before sizing up again
Thrips or spider mite damage
Cause: Dry air and still conditions, especially indoors over winter
Fix: Increase humidity and airflow together, and treat visible pest damage with a systemic or contact treatment rather than water alone
Weaker expression of either parent's traits
Cause: A naturally variable hybrid — individual plants lean more toward one parent or the other
Fix: Nothing to fix as such; judge the specific plant in front of you rather than expecting a fixed, uniform look
A cross, priced and tracked separately from both parents.
