Anthurium crystallinum

One of the foundational velvet anthuriums, Anthurium crystallinum grows terrestrially (occasionally on rock) across humid forest from Panama to Peru, in deep shade on moist, organic-rich substrate. Broad, cordate leaves in deep velvety dark green carry an open sinus and silvery-white primary venation, the pairing that gives the plant its crystalline look. It stays self-supporting rather than climbing, rooted from a short crown, and its horticultural importance runs deep: it's the parent of numerous hybrids, crystallinum × magnificum and crystallinum × forgetii among them, making it one of the most consequential species in the velvet anthurium group rather than just another pretty leaf.
