Anthurium magnificum

Run a finger along an Anthurium magnificum petiole and you'll feel the trait that sets it apart from every similar velvet species: a distinctly quadrangular, square cross-section rather than the rounded stem most Anthurium have. Native to Colombia's humid montane forest, it grows as a compact terrestrial to epiphytic aroid in shaded understory, its broad, heart-shaped leaves carrying a wide sinus and prominent pale venation over deep green velvet. It holds a tidy, upright, compact habit throughout its life, which combined with its long cultivation history makes it a genuine benchmark species for the velvet-anthurium category.
