About Philodendron 'Florida Ghost'

Philodendron 'Florida Ghost' is a horticultural hybrid grown for its ephemeral foliage coloration. Before you buy

Check that roots are firm and white to tan; avoid plants with black, slimy, or absent roots
Confirm which named form you're buying — 'Florida Beauty' has several similarly priced siblings (Ghost, Aurea, Mint) traded under related names
Inspect leaf undersides for thrips (tiny dark specks or silvery streaking) and mealybugs (white cottony deposits at leaf axils)
Compare the specific variegation pattern to recent sold comps, since price varies with how much cream/ivory the individual plant shows

Philodendron 'Florida Ghost' care

Substrate: A high-porosity mix — 50% perlite, 30% orchid bark, 20% coco coir — with a moss pole or similar support set in at planting time. Philodendrons are prone to root rot in denser substrates, and the aerial roots need something to climb as much as the pot needs drainage.
Watering: Water thoroughly, then let the top third of the mix dry before watering again.
Humidity: High, 60-80%. UK tap water can cause brown tips on the paler variegated patches specifically — rainwater or filtered water helps keep them clean.
Feeding: Feed at quarter to half strength every 2-3 weeks in the growing season with a balanced fertiliser; drop to monthly over winter.
Repotting: Repot every 12-18 months, sizing up the climbing support alongside the pot — leaf size and lobing both improve once the plant is properly climbing.

Common problems

Root rot
Cause: Substrate that stays wet, often from a mix that's too dense or a pot with poor drainage
Fix: Repot into a chunkier mix immediately and trim away any mushy roots
Smaller, less lobed leaves
Cause: No climbing support
Fix: Add a moss pole; the deeply pedate mature leaf form develops more fully while climbing
Brown leaf tips
Cause: Low humidity or minerals in UK tap water
Fix: Increase ambient humidity and switch to rainwater or filtered water

How to propagate Philodendron 'Florida Ghost'

Methods: Stem cutting, Node cutting. Step-by-step guide
Difficulty: Easy. Forgiving of missed waterings, average home humidity, and imperfect light. A solid pick for beginners or low-fuss collections.
Time to establish: 3-6 months
True from cuttings: Yes. Cuttings keep the cultivar's character.
Notes: Stem cuttings with at least one node and aerial root root readily in damp sphagnum or water within 2-4 weeks — one of the more reliable variegated philodendrons to propagate, since the variegation itself is unusually stable.
