Philodendron gloriosum

Unlike most of its climbing relatives, Philodendron gloriosum stays on the ground: a thick, horizontal rhizome spreads across the forest floor, rooting at each node into organic-rich substrate rather than reaching for a tree trunk. Native to tropical forest in Colombia, its heart-shaped, velvety leaves carry pale contrasting venation across a matte surface. It's one of the foundational terrestrial philodendrons in cultivation, and conditions that mimic its shaded, high-humidity understory habitat keep it looking its best.
