Anthurium luxurians

The leaf surface on Anthurium luxurians raises into distinct cells between the veins, a heavily bullate texture that reads as crocodile hide or hammered bronze depending on the light. Described by Croat and Cirino, it grows as a compact terrestrial or low epiphyte in Colombia's humid, shaded rainforest understory, rooted in rich organic soil and humus at tree bases. Thick, cordate blades in deep, dark glossy green sit on short petioles rising from a dense crown — a compact, self-heading plant grown almost entirely for that one unusually textured leaf surface, demanding high humidity and warmth to show it at its best.
