Philodendron mamei 'Variegated' is a cream-and-white sectoral sport of the silver-mottled species, layering irregular pale patches over the cordate, bullate leaf blade in addition to the species' usual silver mottling. Like the species, it grows as a low, creeping hemiepiphyte with a horizontal rhizome that roots at the nodes rather than climbing.
Cultivated variegated selection derived from Philodendron mamei, a species native to Peru.

Rhizome rot
Cause: Substrate that stays wet, or a rhizome partially buried in compost
Fix: Cut back to firm, healthy tissue, let the wound callus, and keep the rhizome exposed at the surface going forward
Faded or patchy silver mottling
Cause: Insufficient light for the variegation pattern to develop strongly
Fix: Move to brighter indirect light; the silver mottling reads best under good light, not deep shade
Leaf yellowing
Cause: Overwatering more often than underwatering on this species
Fix: Let the mix dry further between waterings and check the pot drains freely
