Rio is a variegated selection of the classic heartleaf Philodendron, distinguished by a distinctive wavy, ruffled leaf margin alongside its cream and green variegation, a textural difference from the flat-leaved 'Brasil' that sets it apart at a glance. Like the rest of the hederaceum family it is a slender, trailing or climbing vine that roots readily along its stem, and it shares the species' forgiving, low-light-tolerant nature, making variegated colour available in a genuinely easy houseplant.
Cultivated variegated selection of Philodendron hederaceum.

Long, bare stretches between leaves
Cause: Insufficient light, which this species tolerates but doesn't thrive in long-term
Fix: Move to brighter indirect light; growth compacts noticeably with better light
Root rot
Cause: Substrate that stays wet, often from a mix that's too dense or a pot with poor drainage
Fix: Repot into a chunkier mix immediately and trim away any mushy roots
Small, slow-growing leaves
Cause: A young cutting still establishing, or insufficient feeding through the growing season
Fix: Be patient with new cuttings and feed lightly but consistently once established
