Anthurium wendlingeri

A tight spiral, genuinely corkscrew-shaped, hangs below the foliage on Anthurium wendlingeri — an elongated, spiralled spadix unlike anything else in the genus and the trait that gives the species its identity beyond the leaves themselves. Native to wet tropical forest from southeastern Nicaragua to northwestern Colombia, it grows a compact crown producing long, strap-like leaves that hang vertically, thick, leathery, glossy and entirely without the broad heart-shaped blade most anthuriums are known for. A well-known epiphytic subshrub among pendant-anthurium collectors specifically for that spadix.
