About Philodendron 'Paraiso Verde'

Paraiso Verde ('green paradise') carries elongated, lobed leaves mottled with light-green and yellow variegation in irregular patches, a softer, more painterly variegation pattern than the sharp-edged sectoring seen on many other Philodendron cultivars. Variegation intensity is notably temperature-dependent, with cooler growing conditions tending to bring out stronger yellow tones and warmer conditions pushing leaves back toward solid green. It's a climbing Philodendron that benefits from a support pole once internodes begin to lengthen.

Before you buy

Check the variegation pattern for the described mottled light-green-and-yellow patches, not sharp white sectoring; this is a softer, more painterly pattern than Albo-type variegation
Ask what temperature the plant has been grown at recently, since variegation intensity here is temperature-dependent; cooler conditions bring out stronger yellow, warmer conditions push the leaf back toward green
This is a climbing plant that benefits from a support once internodes lengthen; check whether the listing includes an established support or a bare cutting
Confirm which named form is actually being sold; variant listings under related names (Albo, Aurea, Mint) command very different prices and shouldn't be assumed interchangeable

Philodendron 'Paraiso Verde' care

Substrate: A chunky, well-aerated aroid mix containing orchid bark, perlite and a moisture-retaining element like coco coir supports healthy root growth. Standard houseplant compost alone is too dense and increases the risk of root rot.
Watering: Allow the top third of the soil to dry completely before watering thoroughly. Philodendrons are sensitive to overwatering, so ensure the pot does not sit in water after draining.
Humidity: Maintain moderate to high humidity between 55–70% to encourage larger leaves and healthy aerial roots. Average room conditions are tolerated, but grouping plants or using a humidifier provides optimal moisture.
Feeding: Apply a balanced liquid fertiliser at half strength every two to four weeks during the active growing season. Reduce feeding significantly over the winter months when growth naturally slows down.
Repotting: Repot every one to two years or when roots become bound and start circling the bottom of the pot. Providing a supportive pole during repotting encourages the climbing habit and mature leaf development.

Common problems

Loss of variegation
Cause: Temperatures are too warm, as this cultivar relies on cooler conditions to maintain its mottled yellow patterns.
Fix: Move the plant to a cooler location within its preferred 16–26°C range to encourage the return of variegated growth.
Root rot
Cause: Consistent overwatering or using a dense substrate that lacks sufficient aeration and drainage.
Fix: Remove the plant, trim away any dark and mushy roots, and repot immediately into a fresh, chunky aroid mix.
Small leaves and long internodes
Cause: Insufficient light levels or a lack of physical support for the aerial roots to anchor onto.
Fix: Relocate to a spot with bright indirect light and attach the stem to a moss pole or trellis.

How to propagate Philodendron 'Paraiso Verde'

Methods: Stem cutting, Air layering. Step-by-step guide
Difficulty: Moderate. Rewards a consistent watering and light routine, but tolerates the occasional lapse. Suited to growers with some houseplant experience.
Time to establish: 8–12 weeks
Notes: Take stem cuttings that include at least one node and an intact aerial root for the highest success rate. Root these cuttings in damp sphagnum moss, perlite or water before transferring them to a chunky potting mix. Keep the propagation environment humid to prevent foliage from dehydrating while the new root system develops.
