Monstera 'Fission' Price, and When It May Be Affordable

Monstera deliciosa 'Fission' is a 2026 release from the Chinese nursery EMgarden. What its asking price means, how long the price should take to fall, judged by three plants that have already fallen, and how to identify a real one.

Where Monstera 'Fission' comes from

Monstera deliciosa 'Fission' was released (2026) by EMgarden, a wholesale nursery in China that supplies variegated aroids to the export trade. Its launch material carries the Chinese name 裂变龟背竹, which translates as "fission monstera"; 龟背竹 is the Chinese common name for Monstera deliciosa.

EMgarden has not said how the plant arose (seedling sport, a branch sport on an existing variegated plant, or a tissue-culture variant), and it has not said whether it is multiplying the plant in tissue culture. Both answers will decide how fast the price falls, so they are the two things to watch for in any announcement from the nursery.

  • Dark bottle-green

Near-black patches with sharp edges, dotted with lime.

  • Cream and lime streaks

Pale streaks run from the midrib to the margin along the lateral veins.

  • Fine flecks

Small cream flecks and dark speckles sit between the streaks.

What the US$40,000 figure means

The number circulating on social media is an asking price for a single plant, shared in a collector group on Facebook. It is not a recorded sale.

New Monstera releases have followed the same course: a few early plants are offered at very high prices, propagated stock follows, and the price falls. Devil Monster, also first posted by EMgarden, made headlines at US$39,000 in March 2024 and now sells on UK eBay for a small fraction of that. The timeline below measures how fast that happened, and what the same fall would mean for 'Fission'.

When Monstera 'Fission' may be affordable

At the rates these plants fell, a small 'Fission' would reach £1,000 between mid 2028 and early 2030. It would reach £100 between mid 2029 and late 2032, and £30 between mid 2030 and late 2034 if the fall carries on past what the records cover. Below that it levels off near £20, what established variegated deliciosa forms sell for today.

Devil Monster is the closest match: the same species, the same nursery and the same export trade. Tissue-culture plantlets of it were selling on UK eBay by August 2026, under two and a half years after its headline figure.

Two things would move the dates. News that EMgarden has 'Fission' in tissue culture would point to the Devil Monster line or faster; cuttings that revert to green would keep well-marked plants scarce for longer.

Monstera 'Fission' price in the UK

'Fission' has no recorded UK sale so far. The dates above are projections from other plants, not a price for 'Fission'. Its plant page prices it from its own UK sales only.

Expect the real figure to fall rather than rise once plants reach UK sellers. Once three or more UK sales are recorded, the plant page shows a median of those sales.

How to identify Monstera 'Fission'

The launch photos show a young deliciosa with two-tone variegation: lime-yellow and cream, laid over dark green. The pale colour runs in long streaks from the midrib out to the margin along the lateral veins, with fine cream flecks between the streaks. On the leaves shown, the pale tissue covers more of the leaf than the green does.

That combination is the thing to check. A standard aurea deliciosa has yellow sectors but no cream; Thai Constellation has cream speckle on a mostly green leaf; an albo has white rather than lime. A listing that shows only one of those colours is unlikely to be 'Fission', however it is labelled.

Mature leaf size and the petiole colour have not been documented yet, since every plant photographed so far is a juvenile.

Buying a Monstera 'Fission' now

While the name is new, the main risk is a relabelled plant: an aurea or marbled deliciosa sold under the 'Fission' name at a 'Fission' price. Ask where the plant came from, ask for a photo of the newest leaf and the stem at the node you are buying, and compare both against the launch photos.

If you do not need to own one this year, waiting costs little. Every recent Monstera release has been cheaper a year after launch than at launch, and nothing about 'Fission' so far suggests it will be the exception.

Questions

When will Monstera 'Fission' be affordable?
At the rates these plants fell, a small 'Fission' would reach £1,000 between mid 2028 and early 2030. It would reach £100 between mid 2029 and late 2032, and £30 between mid 2030 and late 2034 if the fall carries on past what the records cover. Below that it levels off near £20, what established variegated deliciosa forms sell for today. Devil Monster, from the same nursery, is the closest match; on its path 'Fission' reaches £1,000 around mid 2028. These are projections from other plants, not UK sales of 'Fission'.
Who makes Monstera 'Fission'?
It was released (2026) by EMgarden, a wholesale nursery in China that also lists Devil Monster and Burle Marx Flame Mint.
How much does Monstera 'Fission' cost?
No UK sales or shop prices recorded yet. One plant was advertised at US$40,000, but that is a single asking price.
Where can I buy Monstera 'Fission' in the UK?
Early stock comes from EMgarden through its wholesale buyers, so ask any seller where their plant came from and ask for a photo of the newest leaf before paying.
How is 'Fission' different from Monstera Thai Constellation?
Thai Constellation has cream speckles on a mostly green leaf. 'Fission' has lime-yellow as well as cream, in streaks as well as flecks, and the pale tissue covers most of the leaf.
Is Monstera 'Fission' stable?
Not yet known. EMgarden has not published how the plant arose or how it is propagated, and there are not yet enough plants in cultivation to say how often cuttings revert to green.
