Monstera acacoyaguensis is a climbing canopy aroid native to the tropical forests of southern Mexico and Central America. It climbs trees using aerial roots, developing large fenestrated leaves. Unlike Monstera deliciosa, the fenestrations are large, oval holes clustered along the midrib, leaving the margins mostly intact. The foliage is thick, coriaceous, and glossy green, giving it a sculptural form suited to vertical growing spaces.
Mexico to Central America
No fenestrations (splits/holes)
Cause: Plant is juvenile, or insufficient light
Fix: Ensure bright indirect light and allow the plant to mature; fenestrations develop with age and better conditions
Yellow leaves
Cause: Overwatering or nutrient deficiency
Fix: Check soil moisture before watering; begin a regular fertilising routine in growing season
Brown patches on leaves
Cause: Sunburn or cold water on leaves
Fix: Avoid direct sun; water at the base and ensure water is room temperature
