About Anthurium plowmanii 'Jungle Queen'
Jungle Queen shares plowmanii's thick, leathery, heavily undulating leaves, generally offered as a slightly more compact companion selection to 'Jungle King'. Mass-produced through tissue culture, it has become a widely available large-leaf statement Anthurium at a fraction of the price of true species like crystallinum or warocqueanum, prized more for bold ruffled foliage than fine collector detail.
Native range
Named selection bred from Anthurium plowmanii, sold widely as tissue-cultured stock alongside its companion selection 'Jungle King'.

Before you buy
- Check for pronounced, undulating ruffles along the leaf margin; flatter-edged plants may be a different Anthurium or a hybrid sold under this name.
- If buying 'Jungle King' or 'Jungle Queen', confirm which cultivar is represented, as they are priced and traded separately from the species.
Anthurium plowmanii 'Jungle Queen' care
- Substrate
- Chunky, well-draining mix: bark, perlite and potting compost. Its thick, leathery leaves tolerate a coarser substrate than most Anthurium.
- Watering
- Water when the top half of the substrate is dry; it tolerates drier air and substrate than most large Anthurium.
- Humidity
- 65-80%; comfortable at typical household humidity.
- Feeding
- Balanced liquid fertiliser at quarter strength every 4 weeks during active growth.
- Repotting
- Every 2-3 years, sizing up as the rosette widens; mature plants become large and need a stable, heavy pot.
Common problems
Leaf margins losing their ruffled, undulating texture
Cause: Insufficient light
Fix: Move to brighter, indirect light; the characteristic ruffling is most pronounced on well-lit growth.
