About Anthurium clarinervium 'Dark Form'
Anthurium clarinervium 'Dark Form' is a selected colour form of the standard Mexican species, bred and grown on for a noticeably deeper, almost blackish-green leaf blade than typical clarinervium. The extra depth of ground colour throws the signature geometric white venation into even sharper contrast, and unlike a chimeric variegation this trait is stable; it reproduces true from division or tissue culture rather than requiring a specific cutting node. The plant keeps clarinervium's compact, velvety, deeply cordate leaf shape; the difference is purely tonal, and the Dark Form sells consistently alongside the standard species at UK specialist nurseries.

Before you buy
- Inspect the venation for a crisp, unbroken silver-white pattern; faded or patchy venation suggests a weaker specimen.
- Check for unblemished, symmetrical cordation.
Anthurium clarinervium 'Dark Form' care
- Substrate
- Well-draining aroid mix: potting compost, perlite and orchid bark in roughly equal parts. Avoid overly chunky mixes that dry too fast for its slow root system.
- Watering
- Water when the top 3-4cm of substrate is dry. Slow growth means it uses water more slowly than fast-growing Anthurium; err on the side of underwatering.
- Humidity
- 70-80%. The velvety leaf surface is prone to fungal spotting if humidity is high but airflow is poor.
- Feeding
- Low-nitrogen liquid fertiliser at quarter strength every 4-6 weeks; overfeeding pushes soft growth that loses the leaf's stiff, coriaceous texture.
- Repotting
- Every 2-3 years. A compact rosette does not need frequent repotting.
Common problems
Loss of leaf sheen and geometric venation contrast
Cause: Insufficient light
Fix: Move to a brighter spot with strong indirect light; venation contrast is most pronounced under good light.

How to propagate Anthurium clarinervium 'Dark Form'
- Methods
- Stem cutting, Offset (keiki). Step-by-step guide
- Difficulty
- Challenging. Needs stable humidity, consistent moisture, and bright indirect light to thrive. Best suited to experienced aroid growers.
