Alocasia 'Regal Shields' combines the large scale of Alocasia odora with the crisp, corrugated venation of Dragon Scale breeding. Its huge, shield-shaped leaves are a deep matte green so dark it reads almost black in low light, with pale, sharply recessed veins across a thick, waxy surface. Sturdy upright petioles hold the foliage well clear of the pot, giving mature plants a large presence as a floor specimen. It is a vigorous, relatively forgiving grower for its size, which has made it a popular choice for collectors moving beyond windowsill-scale Alocasias.
Horticultural hybrid, bred from Alocasia odora and Alocasia baginda 'Dragon Scale' parentage.

Spider mite infestation
Cause: Dry indoor air combined with poor air circulation, which creates an ideal environment for mites to gather on the undersides of the large leaves.
Fix: Wipe down the foliage regularly with a damp cloth to physically remove pests, increase local humidity, and treat persistent infestations with a targeted miticide.
Yellowing lower leaves
Cause: Inconsistent watering, either from the soil drying out completely between waterings or from chronic overwatering that damages the roots.
Fix: Assess the moisture level of the substrate before adjusting the watering frequency, ensuring the pot drains freely and is never left standing in water.
Fungal leaf spots
Cause: Water sitting on the broad leaves for extended periods, particularly in cooler conditions with poor airflow.
Fix: Water the soil directly rather than the foliage, improve air circulation around the plant, and remove severely affected leaves to prevent spread.
A cross, priced and tracked separately from both parents.
